The newly appointed Minister of Agriculture & Food security, Abubakar Kyari, who assumed office on Monday has promised to make food security a top priority.
He stated that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring that Nigerians have access to food as well as generate foreign exchange through food exports.
This he said during a reception held at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food security headquarters in Abuja organized by the ministry.
According to Kyari, the high rate of hunger in the country is alarming as it poise as one of the most challenging problems in the country.
In his words: “We know the challenge that we face now. Hunger is one of the big problems that we have in this country. When I say hunger, it also means food and there are challenges to food security, insecurity is one of them, flooding is another, there are other issues. For me and for my colleague – the Minister of State, and even state governors, the biggest hope that we have is the political will driven by President Bola Tinubu”.
He thereby assured those present that the problem is one with solution as the aim is not only to eradicate food insecurity, but to also export food in abundance.
