The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is urging Nigerians to avoid purchasing unbranded cereals sold in the open market as they may pose a health risk.
This was said by the Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeye, in a statement released at a recent stakeholder engagement event held in Lagos.
Adeye emphasized the need for consumers to be on the lookout for only NAFDAC approved products. According to her, “When a product is not certified by NAFDAC it is not advisable that anybody should consume it.The unbranded products in the market, do not have NAFDAC registration/marketing authorisation number.”
She also warned food manufacturers against the sale of expired and stolen products as it is unacceptable and may pose a serious health challenge to consumers, particularly children.
