The Nigeria Women’s Football League promises some exciting encounters in different centers as we enter Game Week 3 of the elite women’s football league in Nigeria.
Top of the pile is the Group B clash between Delta Queens and River Angels, two teams with history and prestige, in the NWFL, and deservedly so.
Not forgetting the derby between Abia Angels and Heartland Queens as well.
DELTA QUEENS VS RIVERS ANGELS
Delta Queens come into the tie not on the best of forms, with 2 draws in 2 games after a goalless draw on the opening day against newly promoted side Ekiti Queens away and a one-all draw as well against newbies Remo Stars Ladies on home turf last time out.
Rivers Angels is just slightly better and the form team amongst the duo with 1 win against eternal rivals Edo Queens and 1 draw against newbies Remo Stars Ladies in the opening week.
Delta Queens currently sit 6th on the Group B log 5 places and 2 points away from their visitors Rivers Angels in 1st place on the log, in the fiercely competitive Group B.
It’s a clash that promises more than the regular, and usually one with goals aplenty. It’s set to kick off on Wednesday by 4 pm at the Asaba Township Stadium, Delta State.
Other games in Group B, would see…
REMO STARS LADIES vs BAYELSA QUEENS
Coach Wemimo’s Remo Stars Ladies will do battle at home against Bayelsa Queens in a battle for relevance in the group.
The ikenne based side is yet to get a win or a loss so far in their debut campaign with 2 draws against ex-NWFL champions on the bounce.
While Bayelsa Queens would be counting on their experience to make light work of the newbies in a first-ever meeting.
It promises to be a cracker if the Homeside delivers on the promises we’ve seen in their play so far.
EKITI QUEENS vs ROBO QUEENS
Ekiti Queens is set to host the Lagos Landladies, Robo Queens by 4 pm on Wednesday at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, in Ado-Ekiti.
With a draw and a loss so far in their debut campaign, the Baoress Babes are adjusting to life in the elite women’s league slowly and will be battling it out on home turf against a side with so much history but have been inconsistent so far.
Robo Queens come into the game with a loss and a win from 2 games and would be hoping to make it 2 wins in 2 to get their campaign going after their 3-2, narrow first win of the campaign last time out against Sunshine Queens.
SUNSHINE QUEENS VS EDO QUEENS
Seventh on the Log in Group B, Sunshine Queens hosts, 3rd on the Log Edo Queens on home turf at the Akure Township Stadium by 4 pm on Wednesday.
The hosts are winless in 2 with a draw on the opening week and a loss last time out against the Lagos Landladies Robo Queens away, they would be seeking redemption against their counterparts from Edo who flattered to deceive in their last game.
Edo Queens would seek a return to winning ways and hope the loss last time out is just a blip, after flattering to deceive in a 1-3 loss to Rivers Angels away in Port Harcourt.
A win for Sunshine Queens would see them leap above their opponents, while a win for Edo Queens would see them cement their standings in the top 3 on the log.
IN GROUP A
ABIA ANGELS VS HEARTLAND QUEENS
Incidentally, the first game of the match day would see Abia Angels host Heartland Queens in an Eastern derby that promises fire and brimstone at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba.
The home side come into the game as the form team of the moment with 2 wins out of 2 and second on the Group A log, only on goal difference behind Nasarawa Amazons.
Heartland Queens come into the game in 5th place, with 1 win and 1 loss in 2 games, in a shaky start to the season.
But, as the saying goes, form is thrown out of the table when it comes to a derby day encounter, and this isn’t any different. So expect the unexpected!
NAIJA RATELS VS ADAMAWA QUEENS
It’s the battle of Northern supremacy and rivalry. As Super Falcons Captain, Onome Ebi’s Naija Ratels host Adamawa Queens at the Aguiyi Ironsi Stadium in Abuja on Game Day 3.
Both sides are yet to get a point on the scoreboard in the league this season and will be hoping to change the narrative in this game to Kick Start their season.
The hosts are below their opponents who are 6th on the log in 7th place on a negative goal difference.
It’s a battle to kick start their season with a win for either team, a draw would be deemed, not good enough. It would be a good watch.
CONFLUENCE QUEENS VS ROYAL QUEENS
Royal Queens come into the game in 8th place on the log and are set to play away at Confluence Queens, at the Iyamho stadium in Auchi.
The away side would be hoping to get their campaign up and running with a shock win or at least a draw against the host who seem to be gathering steam, after getting a win away at Adamawa Queens last time out. A step better than their opening game draw against Dannaz Ladies at home.
4th on the Log, in Group A, with a win and a draw, Confluence Queens would be hoping to heap more misery on their opponents who seem to be the whipping team of the group so far in the campaign, with no point in the league.
DANNAZ LADIES VS NASARAWA AMAZONS
Privately run Dannaz Ladies would be hosting their opponents from Up North Nasarawa Amazons by 4 pm on Wednesday at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos.
With a draw and a win in their last game, Dannaz would be hoping to get something from the game against their more illustrious opponents who are currently unbeaten in the league.
Meanwhile, Group A Log leaders and the form team of the NWFL after game week 2 would be hoping to make it 3 wins from 3 to continue their winning streak and send fear into opposition hearts.
For the hosts, this is the best time to meet their opponents and a shock win would send them top of the table and above their visiting opponent.
This is another cracker to watch out for in the NWFL game week 3 as it promises to be an end-to-end action from both teams.
