The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) game week 4 saw some amazing performances, goals, and unexpected results.

With 14 goals scored in total, 5 home wins in 8 games, and 3 draws. It was a game week that lived to the billing with no shockers really, as the big girls delivered when it mattered.

It wasn’t a great outing for Remo Stars Ladies as they fell to a 1-2 defeat away at NWFL regulars Robo Queens, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

The Lagos Landladies were in sublime form and raced into a 2-goal lead in a baptism of fire for the Coach Wemimo-led side from Ikenne, who had no answers to the questions asked by the Lagosians.

Ajakaye Opeyemi and Folashade Ijamilusi’s early goals were enough to give the Lagos Landladies a deserved win despite a consolation goal being scored by the away side after some good play.

Edo Queens Football Club of Benin on Wednesday evening extended their lead at the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL summit after a pulsating 3-1 win over Ekiti Queens FC in Match Day four of the Women’s premier league.

Glory Osaghae notched a hattrick on her 3rd appearance for the Ancient City-based ladies as they took on the struggling newcomers from Ekiti.

The lanky striker scored her first on the stroke of extra time of the first half.

Got her brace and her team’s second early in the second half, from an Esther Moses through ball and chipping the onrushing Omede Regina to send her side 2-0 up.

The Ekiti ladies pressed for a response and got one back after intense pressure on the home side resulting in a loss of concentration and in return the first goal of the season for the ladies from Ado in the 79th minute.

It proved to be a mere consolation as Glory completed her hattrick, and her side 3rd shortly after in the 82nd minute to send the away side back home empty-handed, and her side to the top in Group B of the NWFL abridged league.

With 9 points from four matches, Edo Queens will take the battle to Ogun State next week Wednesday where they will lock horns with Remo Stars Ladies in Match Day five of the NWFL premiership.

Despite winning 3-1 Edo Queens head coach Moses Aduku, said that the weather affected his players but expressed gratitude to God for the victory.

He averred that the most important thing is grabbing the three maximum points.

My girls never underrated their opponent, the weather really affected our game. But thank God we picked the required three points. For the next game, we are going back to work, no team is small in football, we are going to our next game with the mindset of winning and we know that we are in for a big fight. We will definitely do our best by His grace.”

For coach Okunwa Igunbor, of Ekiti Queens she said:

I’m very happy with the brilliant performance of my girls, if you look critically at my players, you will discover that these are young girls for the future. Losing 3-1 to a team like Edo Queens who are champions is in fact a good result.

My girls are just barely three months old in the League, we have a lot of work to do no doubt. I feel very happy that we scored our first goal of the premiership in Edo. So we are aware of the task ahead, we will do more work on them. And I believe Ekiti Queens will get there one day.” He concluded.

Heartland Queens played out a frustrating goalless draw against visitors, Confluence Queens in a grudge match at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

The match turned out to be exactly as predicted, as the Watersmeet side thwarted the efforts of the homers to be beaten twice in months.

The scoreless draw keeps the Owerri side in the third spot on the log with seven points one behind the challengers, Confluence Queens, and leaders, Nasarawa Amazons.

Heartland Queens will embark on a journey to last season’s nemesis, Naija Ratels for the NWFL Premiership matchday 5 clash in Abuja.

Nasarawa Amazons 0-0 Abia Angels
