The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) witnessed another exciting weekend of action in different centers, with key clashes reshaping the league table.
Remo Stars continued their impressive run as they returned to the top of the table, defeating fellow table-toppers Lobi Stars 2-0 at their home ground in Ikenne, Ogun State.
Sikiru Alimi opened the scoring in the 1st minute of added time after regulation, with a glancing header from substitute Olamilekan Adam’s corner.
Adams Provider for the first, turned scorer for Remo’s second, haunting his former club Lobi and securing the victory with a close-range tap-in in the 6th minute of extra time after the goalkeeper spilled into his path.
This win sees Remo Stars return to the top of the table ahead of second-placed Doma United who on Wednesday piped Heartland FC 1-0 at the Pamtani Stadium in Gombe.
While the Sky Blue Stars are on 29 points after 15 games, the Savannah Tigers follow closely on 28 points from the same number of games.
Interestingly, the top two teams presently leading the pack on the NPFL log are privately owned.
Sporting Lagos Draw in Onikan
In a thrilling encounter, Sporting Lagos played a 1-1 draw against struggling Bayelsa Utd at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
Robert Mizo opened the scoring for the away side against the run of play in the 24th minute, after some good work by the Bayelsa United attackers.
While it appeared the away side had done enough for a flawless victory over their hosts, and with a man down due to Kehinde Lawal’s red card in the 63rd minute, the Noisy Lagosians pulled a goal consolation goal back in stoppage time through Aliu Salawudeen in the 3rd min of extra time to share the spoils and send the home fans into ecstasy.
The draw in Onikan was enough to move Sporting Lagos to 14th with 17 points while Bayelsa remain 2nd from the bottom with 14 points.
Enyimba In a thrilling encounter, played a 1-1 draw against resurgent Rangers International in Aba on Wednesday.
Managerless Akwa United played a goalless draw on home turf against Sunshine Stars to remain 18th on the log with 15 points.
Monday Odigie’s Bendel Insurance scraped through 1-0 at home in Benin, against an energetic Abia Warriors side, who gave it all but couldn’t get a point.
Kwara United defeated Plateau United 2-1 to move up to 11th on the log with 19 points. Just below Shooting Stars whose game against Rivers United was postponed due to the Pride of Rivers continental journeys.
The Ikon Allah boys, Niger Tornadoes finally nicked a 1-0 win against the Sai MaSu Gida, Kano Pillars on their borrowed home turf in Kaduna. The win sees them move 1 point away from the relegation zone on 16 points.
Gombe United continued their resurgence with a 1-0 victory over Northern neighbors Katsina United to send them 12th on the log with 19 points.
