NWFL Round-Up: Big Home Wins For Traditional Power Queens Delta, Bayelsa, as Rivers Angels Win In Lagos

Remo Stars Ladies also defeated Ekiti Queens in the battle of the newbies.

The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) promised a lot of crackers on game week 7 and duly delivered in all centers with a few shockers.

Game Week 7 produced no draw in all centers as 7 home wins were recorded and a shock away win by traditional NWFL powerhouse Rivers Angel, shocking FC Robo Queens, at home in Onikan, Lagos.

In Lagos, the “Lagos Landladies” were without key striker Opeyemi Ajakaye, who is currently away on national team duties with the Nigeria Women U-20 team, and it was obvious from the get-go.

The Lagosians despite matching Rivers Angels for most parts of the game couldn’t find their shooting boots and were punished within the first 10 minutes of the first half.

Ezekiel Motunrayo converted for the away side in the 7th minute, sending the pocket of away fans in Onikan into joyful celebrations.

The home side responded through Salami Mary, 7 minutes from halftime in the 38th minute to get the home support back in their groove with choruses worthy of a revival coming from the stands.

That wasn’t to be, as their finishing let them down when clear on goal, and Hassan Suliyat converted what proved to be the winner in the 62nd minute sending the away bench into the 7th Heaven, and the home bench into despair.

The Lagos Landladies did all in their power to get into the game but, it wasn’t to be, as the Ladies from Portharcout held on for a rare away win and a very important 3 points away from home 1-2.


Bayelsa Queens vs Edo Queens (Battle of The Queens)

In the battle of the Queens in the south, Bayelsa proved the superior Queen mauling Edo on home turf 3-0.

It was surprisingly goalless at the end of the first 45 minutes in a very interesting half. Has it had all the makings of the Clash of the Titans in full glare.

But, it was destined not to remain the same at full time, as Chinyere Igboamalu broke the deadlock for Bayelsa Queens from a cross 2mins into the restart, in the 47th minute, and got her second with a screamer from outside the box shortly after in the 56th min to send the home fans to the seventh heaven.

The ferocious Queen finally claimed the match ball with a 3rd in the 70th minute, as she ran riot against the Ladies from Edo in less than 228 minutes

Chinyere’s hattrick was more than enough to grant the home side an important 3 points with a 3-0 win in a keenly contested group.


Remo Ladies vs Ekiti Queens (Battle of The Newbies)

In the battle of the “Newbies”, Remo Stars Ladies proved to be the superior side mauling her visiting counterparts 4-1.

The home side raced into the lead in the first half 2-0 signaling their intent, with goals from Hannah Ibrahim in the 7th 7tn minute, and Similoluwa Okeesiji in the 18th minute8min made sure they went into halftime on top.

Damilola Adeyanju converted a 3rd goal for the Skyblue ladies running rampant in the 76th minute, as the hosts were threatening to rain more.

But, it was the away side that got something for the pocket of away fans in the stadium to cheer about as Adelabu Pascaline converted in the 81st minute to make it 3-1 in favour of the host.

The Skyblue Ladies would have the last laugh eventually as Adaobi Okah converted in 90+ minutes after regulation time to seal a convincing 4-1 massacre of Ekiti Queens, in Ikenne.


In the Other games:

In Asaba, Delta Queens defeated Sunshine Queens 3-1 at home, as Olabiyi Folajomi Alaba, Chinaza Agoh, and Temitope Owoeye converted for the hosts in the 16th, 45th, and 79th minute respectively.

While Bolaji Olamide got a goal that proved to be a consolation for Sunshine Queens in the 58th minute.


Nasarawa Amazons lost narrowly away to Royal Queens 1-0, Azeezat Obadun netting the pain-inflicting goal on the opposition in the 88th minute of the game.


Adamawa Queens defeated Heartland Queens up north 2-1, with Mary Moses’ extra-time winner breaking Heartland’s hearts.


Dannaz Ladies needed a penalty to defeat Abia Angels in an end-to-end encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

Unamgba Augustina converted from the spot sublimely in the 70th minute with the opposition goalkeeper rooted.


In Abuja, Naija Ratels defeated Confluence Queens 1-0 in a North Central derby, as Agama Ziperekefeghe’s 61st-minute penalty was enough to deliver the maximum points to the home side.
